Jeffrey Atsuson

Jeffrey Atsuson is a multidisciplinary artist, filmmaker, writer, director, and cinematographer working across narrative cinema, documentary, and branded content. His practice is rooted in strong visual authorship and psychological realism, often exploring themes of identity, ritual, isolation, fractured perception, and emotional interiority through formally ambitious visual storytelling.

Working as both director and cinematographer, Jeffrey combines creative vision with technical precision, allowing him to execute projects with a distinct cinematic language across short films, documentaries, and commercial campaigns. His work frequently integrates choreography, symbolism, performance-driven direction, and surrealist visual elements while maintaining a grounded emotional core.

Jeffrey has worked internationally on documentary and branded productions, building a portfolio that spans Africa and North America. His cinematography credits include collaborations with globally recognized organizations and platforms such as Facebook, Spotify, and the United Nations.

For Facebook, Jeffrey served as cinematographer on a documentary created as part of the Year of Return initiative, a cultural campaign championed by Nana Akufo-Addo to reconnect members of the African diaspora with their heritage. He was also cinematographer on Spotify’s Reflections campaign, produced for the platform’s expansion across multiple African countries and featuring Vic Mensa of Roc Nation.

As a director, Jeffrey directed and shot a documentary for the United Nations filmed in Uganda and Rwanda, documenting the lived experiences of local farmers receiving UN-backed support. The project required extensive cross-regional coordination, cultural sensitivity, and a human-centered documentary approach focused on real-world impact.

In narrative filmmaking, Jeffrey was the writer, director, and cinematographer of the 2025 experimental short film Night of the Apollo, which won Best Art Film at the Athens International Film Festival in 2026. The film was also shortlisted at IndieX Film Festival and IndieShort Film Festival, and was selected by the Global Lift-Off Network in the Experimental Art Short category.

Jeffrey also directed and shot the proof of concept for Dead End, a psychological horror project developed as a feature film concept. The project received the Audience Award for Scariest Film at the Horror Underground Film & Screenplay Festival and was later selected for the Global Lift-Off Network Toronto film market program.

Additional cinematography credits include Emoji, which screened at the Fantasia Film Festival in 2026. Through both commercial and independent filmmaking, Jeffrey has developed a body of work defined by atmospheric visual storytelling, emotional intensity, and a commitment to cinematic experimentation.
